Mill Creek: Garbage, Recycling, Yard Waste Collection Program

Beginning in November 2021, LRS will be the new exclusive service provider for the Mill Creek Community!  We look forward to providing weekly collection services for the garbage, recycling and yard waste services.

Pick-up days will be Wednesday and Thursday beginning the first week of November 2021.

Services will remain the same with lower rates and some newly added service options for recycling unwanted electronics that cannot be put in the garbage.

NEW LOWER SUBSCRIPTION RATES 

Effective November 1, 2021, Mill Creek subscription rates are less! All program options shown below include a recycle cart and weekly recycle service.  LRS Mill Creek Waste Stickers must be used for garbage and yard waste placed outside of LRS carts.

If you choose the 1 Cart Program, waste stickers must be used for garbage and yard waste.

NEW COLLECTION DAYS

 

Beginning the first week of November 2021, Mill Creek will be serviced on Wednesday and Thursday. All materials (trash, recycling, yard waste) will be collected on one day in any given area. See map for your service day.

SERVICE BEGINS AT 6:00 AM & SERVICE TIMES WILL VARY

Please have all items to the curb no later than 6:00 A.M. to ensure collection. Service times vary and are not guaranteed.

Mill Creek Waste Map

Mill Creek residents may choose from three different options for residential household collection of refuse. In order to receive any other service offered with this program, you must select from one of the following three service options:

THREE CART PROGRAM

RECYCLE, GARBAGE & YARD WASTE CARTS

Includes three carts: one 65-gallon recycling cart, one 95-gallon garbage cart, and one 65 or 95-gallon yard waste cart for a flat monthly rate billed quarterly, in advance of the service. One Mill Creek Waste Sticker is required for each garbage or yard waste bags or containers (each) in excess of the LRS carts provided.

TWO CART PROGRAM

RECYCLE & GARBAGE CART

Includes one 65-gallon recycling cart and one 95-gallon trash cart for a flat monthly rate billed quarterly, in advance of service. One Mill Creek Waste Sticker is required for each yard waste bag and any bag or container in excess of the LRS carts provided.

ONE CART PROGRAM

RECYCLE CART

Includes one 65-gallon recycling cart (no monthly charge). One Mill Creek Waste Sticker is required for each garbage or yard waste bag or container placed out for collection.

ADDITIONAL REFUSE GUIDELINES

All items need to be placed out for collection by 6 AM on collection day to ensure collection.

NON-LRS CONTAINERS OR LOOSE BAGS USED FOR GARBAGE MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
  • Non-LRS containers must have two handles or a grip.
  • Garbage must be contained and fit inside the container when full.
  • Non-LRS containers (aka garbage can) may not exceed 33-gallons, or 50 pounds when full.
  • Loose garbage bags may not exceed 30 gallons, 50 pounds and must be securely tied.
  • LRS does not collect Hazardous Waste, like paint, cleaners, lawn chemicals, auto fluids, and other flammable materials. These can be collected from your home via a special free program offered by Kane County for Mill Creek residents. Please click here for more information on how to schedule a pickup.

BULK ITEM(S)

Bulk Items are large items that don’t fit into your LRS Garbage Cart or non-LRS garbage container. LRS will collect one bulk item per week for no charge.  Each additional bulk item requires one Mill Creek Waste Sticker.

  • Examples of bulk items include a table, chair, mattress, bed frame, box spring, fixture, large picture or frame, toy, or carpet rolls.
  • Bulk Items must be a manageable weight for a service driver to lift into collection bucket. Please notify LRS for items exceeding 50lbs in weight or 4x4x4.
  • Mattresses must be enclosed in a plastic mattress cover or be completely covered in plastic for health and safety reasons. Plastic Mattress Covers are available at hardware stores and other retail outlets such as Walmart, Target, Ace Hardware, Lowes, Home Depot and storage facilities.
  • Construction Debris may be placed in LRS Garbage Cart, non-LRS container not to exceed 33-gallons or secured in tied bundles not to exceed 4 feet long, 2 feet wide, and 2 feet high.
  • Carpet Rolls must be tied in rolls not to exceed 4 feet in length, or 18 inches in diameter.
  • White Goods, like washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, and freezers are collected free of charge (limit is one per week) by making an appointment; see White Good Appliance Collection section below.

A recycle cart and collection service is offered with each program option.  There is no additional charge for one recycle cart and weekly collection service.

  • Recyclables are collected on the same day of the week as the garbage and yard waste.
  • There is no additional charge for the recycling service.
  • Recycle carts are available in three sizes (95-gallon, 65-gallon and 35-gallon).
  • The default recycle cart size provided for Mill Creek homes is a 65-gallon recycle cart.
  • You are to use the LRS issued cart first for recycled materials.
  • There is no limit to the amount of acceptable recycle items that can be placed out for collection, provided it’s properly prepared and containerized. No stickers are needed for properly prepared recycling materials placed outside of the cart. See guidelines found in “Additional Recycle Guidelines.”

    PAPER

    Remove metal clips and rings, notebook spirals, three-ring binders, and industrial size staples. Envelopes with cellophane windows are accepted.

    • Newspaper and inserts​
    • Magazines, catalogs, and phone books
    • Office paper, notebooks, computer print outs, hanging file folders, pastel colored sticky notes (no fluorescent), glossy brochures, index cards, greeting cards, Stationery, fax paper, manila folders and envelopes
    • Junk mail
    • Chipboard/paperboard – cereal, cracker, ​tissue, shoe, gift, and 6/12-pack boxes, paper towel tubes, and egg cartons
    • Cardboard boxes must be flattened and cut
    • Brown paper grocery bags
    • Paperback books (no hardcover books)
    STEEL/TIN CANS
    • Empty and Rinse, Labels may be left on
    • Food cans and lids
    • Metal paint cans and lids (must be empty and dry, some dried paint residue is fine)
    • Metal lids are recyclable
    CARTONS
    • Empty, Rinse, Do not crush or flatten, Leave caps and tabs on
    • Food and Drink Cartons
    • Milk, Soup,​ and Juice
    ALUMINUM CANS & FOIL
    • Empty, Rinse, Do not crush or flatten
    • Aluminum cans
    • Aluminum foil (ball clean foil to 2 inches or larger, no flat foil or small balled up foil)
    • Pie plates & trays
    GLASS BOTTLES & JARS
    • Empty, Rinse, Labels are ok to leave on
    • All glass colors are accepted
    PLASTIC CONTAINERS
    • Leave plastic screw top caps on empty bottles and jars
    • Empty and rinse; lables may be left on
    • Bottles include: Water, soda, juice, laundry detergent, soap/shampoo,​health and beauty products and cleaners
    • Tubs include: Coffee, tofu, cottage cheese, yogurt, margarine tubs, fruit or lettuce
    • Jugs include: Milk and juice
    • Jars include: Mayo, Peanut butter
    ADDITIONAL RECYCLE GUIDELINES
    • All items must be placed out for collection by 6 AM on collection day.
    • LRS Recycle Carts must be used for recyclable materials. Non-LRS containers are only used for additional recyclables.

    Non-LRS containers used for recycle materials must meet the following requirements:

    • Containers must have two handles or a grip
    • Recyclable materials must be contained inside the container and not exceeding capacity.
    • Recycle containers are required to have a lid.
    • Non-LRS containers may not exceed 33-gallons or 50 pounds when full.

YARD WASTE & FOOD SCRAP COLLECTION

  • Yard waste Season is April 1st through December 15th of each year; collected on the same day of the week as garbage and recycling.
  • There is no limit to the amount of yard waste that may be placed out for collection provided it’s properly prepared and paid for in accordance with the program option selected.
  • Organic Food Scrap may be mixed with yard waste and includes bread, cereal, coffee grounds, dairy, eggshells, eggs, fruits, grain, pasta shells, and vegetables.
  • Each landscape waste bag or non-LRS container must have one Mill Creek Waste Sticker affixed to it for collection.
ADDITIONAL YARD WASTE & FOOD SCRAP ORGANICS GUIDELINES
  • All items must be placed out for collection by 6 AM on collection day.
NON-LRS CONTAINERS (AKA GARBAGE CAN) OR LANDSCAPE WASTE BAGS USED FOR YARD WASTE MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
  • Containers must have two handles or a grip.
  • Yard Waste must be contained inside the container and not exceeding capacity.
  • Non-LRS containers may not exceed 33-gallons or 50 pounds when full.
  • Yard Waste bags are to be a minimum of 2-ply, biodegradable paper, not to exceed 30 gallons or 50 pounds when full.
  • Yard Waste Brush Bundles or Limbs may not exceed 4 inches long, 2 feet in diameter, and may not contain limbs greater than 4 feet in diameter.
  • Yard Waste Bundles must be tied with biodegradable twine or string.
  • Stumps or root balls should be bagged and thrown into regular garbage. For extra-large stumps or root balls, contact LRS for a special collection, or a local landscape company.
  • Christmas Tree Collection will occur the first two (2) FULL weeks of January at no charge. Trees longer than 7’ must be cut in half. Trees must be completely free of all decorations and may not be in plastic bags.

MILL CREEK WASTE STICKERS

Mill Creek Waste Stickers are used for garbage or yard waste outside of LRS cart(s), loose garbage bags, bulk items, and yard waste bags or non-LRS 33-gallon containers.

  • The new Mill Creek Waste Sticker rate will be $2.96 until October 31, 2025.
  • Sticker rates increase every year on November 1st.

Waste Stickers are used for garbage or yard waste outside of LRS cart(s), loose garbage bags, bulk item, yard waste bag or personal 33-gallon container and more than one white good appliance.

E-WASTE HOME COLLECTION EVENTS IN MARCH & OCTOBER

Beginning in 2022, LRS will provide two electronic waste home collections for Mill Creek homes participating in the program. There will be no charge for this added service.


The event will take place on your regular day of collection the first full week of March and the first full week of October, every year.

Residents will be required to submit a request online (on this webpage) to receive an e-waste collection.  Requests will be accepted beginning one month before each event and must be submitted the Friday by 5:00 p.m. prior to collection week.


  • Seven (7) item limit including only one (1) TV or (1) Monitor
  • Tube TV’s may not exceed 40” (inches) or 100 pounds
  • Flat Screen TV’s may not exceed 48”(inches) or 100 pounds

WHITE GOOD APPLIANCE COLLECTION

Some appliances require special handling as they may contain harmful chemicals or they need to be recycled at a special location. Call 844-633-3577 or E-mail LRS Customer Service at Service@LRSrecycles.com to schedule white good collection. LRS will collect one white good appliance per week for no charge.

According to the EPA, Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) are products that are highly toxic or can catch fire, react or explode under certain circumstances. All HHW items are banned from the landfill and will not be collected with curbside collection. LRS encourages residents to take advantage of the drop-off facilities and additional options provided by Kane County.

For curbside service though Kane County, enrollment entitles residents to one free home pick up of HHW per household per year. Service must be booked directly with Kane County’s HHW service provider. Mill Creek Enrollment and Cart Exchange

Welcome to the LRS Mill Creek Service Enrollment or Service Change Request web portal.  We look forward to servicing the Mill Creek Community beginning the week of November 1st, 2021!

Mill Creek residents may use this web portal to:

  • Provide LRS with your mailing address
  • Choose to receive quarterly bill by mail or e-mail (paperless billing option)

  • LRS will begin delivering carts through the month of November.
  • Requests received after Oct 7th may take up to 60 days to be delivered during the initial transition period.

  • Requests submitted after Nov 30 will incur a $20.00 delivery charge.
  • If you submit service changes and need to make a revision, please do not submit this again and contact LRS Customer Service at 844.NEED.LRS.
  • If you requested an exchange of the cart you received, you must leave the other cart out at the curb to be exchanged.
