Friday is the service day in the Village of North Riverside. All garbage and yard waste will be collected between the times of 6AM and 7PM on your collection day. Service times are subject to change.

Garbage collection is unlimited. Residents may use a non-LRS cart or container for waste or recycling materials that do not fit into the LRS issued cart so long as it does not exceed 33 gallons, 50 lbs. and has two handles. You are to use the LRS issued cart first.

Please note: garbage mixed with yard waste, leaves or organic material will not be collected, as this material is not permitted in State of Illinois Landfills.

LRS provides carts in the 95-gallon sizes to residents. If you would like to inquire about swapping your cart, please email Service@LRSRecycles.com or call 844.633.3577 and any of our service representatives would be happy to assist.

For residents that generate more garbage, you may request an additional garbage cart. Please contact the Village of North Riverside directly to do so.

Yard waste collection takes place on a seasonal basis, starting April 1st, and ending on the last Friday in November each year on the same day as refuse and recycling.

What is considered yard waste?

Yard waste,  also known as landscape waste, consists of organic waste materials accumulated as the result of cultivation and maintenance of gardens, lawns, shrubbery, trees and vines.

Guidelines

Residents can elect to use paper bags, brown craft bags or personal metal or plastic cans (35 gallons or smaller) with all options 50lbs or less in weight, per. Please place brush, limbs, branches or trimmings in bundled or twined stacks no larger than 4’ in length, 24” in diameter and not exceeding 50lbs, at your collection point. Yard waste must be clearly labeled “Yard Waste”. Yard waste tags are free of charge and are available at the Village Commons during normal business hours.

Fall Leaf Collection

Yard waste, including leaves, will be picked up on Fridays. Please do not rake piles of leaves into the street or curb line as this causes problems with the Village’s sewer system and interferes with street sweeping activities.

Brush & Tree Branch Pick-Up

North Riverside Public Works provides brush and branch collection every Tuesday between March 15 and November 15. Materials are to be placed in an orderly manner with butt ends facing the street in the public parkways near the curb in front of your home.

Branches will not be collected from the alleys.

Christmas Trees

In January, we will begin to gladly collect your non-artificial Christmas trees as organic material – free of any tinsel, ornaments or lights.  Trees can be left loose (never in bags) in the area where you have regular service for trash and recycling. Due to snow and ice, trees may not always be picked up on your service day as our drivers and trucks will be in the village all month for pickups.

Bulk items (that do not fit into your refuse cart) are collected loose, on your regular day of service. If an item exceeds 50lbs, residents may need to call LRS to schedule a special pickup. If a “bulk” item is considered hazardous, unacceptable for landfills or deemed unacceptable to take as garbage, the item(s) will not be taken.  Items should be placed where you normally receive collection service.

Mattresses and box/bed springs are required to be in a plastic mattress cover and taped securely shut. Plastic mattress covers may be purchased at retail outlets such as Walmart, Lowes, Menards, Home Depot and storage unit facilities. Packaging wrap or trash bags cut up and taped around to cover a mattress or box spring are also acceptable options.

Please call LRS to see if such items can be scheduled for a special pickup.

Electronic Waste (E-Waste) items that are banned from the landfill (cannot go into the regular garbage).

LRS provides bi-annual home collection of electronic waste (E-Waste) for North Riverside households that have LRS waste and recycling collection. This service provides a more convenient and simple way to responsibly manage electronics that are banned from the landfill. There is no charge for this service. A request by the deadline must be submitted to ensure collection.

How do I clean my cart?

Fill the cart with hot water and a capful of vinegar or grease-cutting dish soap. Let it sit for about 10 minutes and rinse. Once the cart has been thoroughly rinsed, set the cart out with the lid open in the sun to dry.

What if I need my cart replaced?

Carts that are broken due to damage incurred during the collection are reported by the driver for replacement at no charge. Residents are encouraged to contact LRS if they notice damage to the cart during the collection process to request a replacement cart.

If damage occurs to the cart due to other reasons, please contact LRS to request a replacement cart.

Is this considered garbage?

Latex paint

Latex paint is considered regular garbage, but it must be completely dried, with the lid off so the driver is able to see inside the can. Dry latex paint by leaving lid off or open and/or mix kitty litter until the paint is completely absorbed. Do not place out for collection until the paint is completely dry.

Alkaline batteries

Alkaline batteries are considered regular garbage and should be thrown into the garbage. It is always recommended that tape be used on each end of the battery and placed into a plastic sandwich bag when disposing of them.

How do I report a missed pickup?

If your waste, recycling, or yard waste services are not collected on the service day by 6 pm, please contact LRS by either calling 844.633.3577 or e-mailing service@lrsrecycles.com

LRS is a Midwest leader with a local operation established right here in Monmouth! Under the City’s new contract with LRS, residents will see a cost savings compared to other bidders along with enhanced services for the next seven years.

All Monmouth residents will be provided with one 95-gallon waste cart at no cost. This cart will be serviced on a weekly basis, and residents will have the option to swap out the 95-gallon cart with a 65-gallon or 35-gallon cart. LRS in partnership with the city will provide the first swap as a courtesy, but any additional swaps will incur a fee of $75.00.

All carts should be placed at the curbside no later than 6AM on your service day. LRS recommends that carts are placed out for service the night before. Although LRS strives to keep a consistent pick-up time, weather and staffing can alter pickup times.

All waste should be bagged and placed inside of the provided LRS cart with the lid closed to ensure safe collection and to help maintain a clean neighborhood appearance.

ADDITIONAL CARTS

Should you need additional cart capacity on a permanent basis, LRS will provide one at a cost of $3 per month, per cart. Please contact city hall to request an additional cart.

As is the case with your waste service, LRS will provide Unincorporated Lake County residents with one recycling cart at no cost. Sizes are 95-gallon, 65-gallon or 35-gallon. This cart will be serviced on a weekly basis on the same day as your waste service.

All carts should be placed at curbside no later than 7AM on your designated service day.

A list of acceptable and unacceptable items is included below, and will also be heat-stamped onto each recycling cart lid. Residents may place out as many recyclable items as they wish each week for collection. Though plastic bags are not accepted, residents may mix recyclables loose in the cart or place them in brown paper bags. Recyclable materials that won’t fit into your recycling cart may also be placed at the side of the cart. We do ask that larger or bulky boxes be broken down before collection.

Yard Waste and Food Scrap Collection

LRS will provide seasonal yard waste collection with either stickers or an annual subscription program, from the first full week in April through the second full week in December. Residents may use and place out their own 35-gallon or smaller cans with yard waste, or brown kraft bags. User-owned cans should be clearly marked as “YW,” and may not weigh more than 50lbs (this weight limit also applies to kraft paper bags). Bundles of twigs sticks and branches may not exceed 4 feet in length and 18 inches in diameter. For our sticker program, one sticker would be required on each can, bag or bundled pile and our subscription program allows for pickup of up to 6 bags, cans or piles per week for an annual flat rate.

As part of Lake County’s new contract with LRS, residents may place organic material and food waste with the yard waste they set out for collection. Nearly 20% of all food waste ends up in landfills, so we encourage participation. There is more information on which types of food and organic material is acceptable on the below downloadable flyer.

Your yard waste service day will be on the same day as your waste and recycling.

In accordance with the Lake County website https://clean-air-lakecountyil.hub.arcgis.com/ , many of Lake County’s municipalities had already banned or restricted open burning to protect the health, safety and welfare of their residents. Regionally, Lake County had been the only county in the Chicago metro area without restrictions on burning yard waste throughout its unincorporated areas prior to the ordinance being passed in January 2022. Important aspects of Lake County’s open burning restrictions are:

  • Burning non-woody yard waste, such as leaves and grass, is prohibited.
  • Burning woody yard waste is allowed annually between Nov. 1 – March 31. Woody yard waste generally consists of sticks, branches and tree limbs.
  • Recreational wood-burning fires that are no larger than 3’ x 3’ x 3’ if used for warming, cooking, and other recreational purposes are permitted year-round. www.clean-air-lakecountyil.hub.arcgis.com

LRS will provide a free collection of Christmas trees annually from January 2nd through the 25th. There will be a limit of one tree per home, and only live Christmas trees will be accepted curbside for collection. Trees must be organic, and free of any tinsel, garland or ornaments. Please do not place trees in plastic bags. We kindly ask for any trees over 6 feet in length to please be cut in half to ensure a safe pickup.

Some appliances require special handling as they may contain harmful chemicals or they need to be recycled at a special location. Upon request, LRS will provide a collection of these major appliances. Residents simply need to call 844-633-3577  to schedule and pay for a white good appliance collection.

EXAMPLES OF WHITE GOODS OR APPLIANCES:
  • Air Conditioner
  • Clothes Dryer

  • Drying Cabinet

HHW products and items are flammable, toxic, corrosive and reactive, and can pose a harmful threat to the environment, workers and equipment if not handled properly. LRS strongly suggests reaching out to SWALCO (Solid Waste Agency of Lake County) for direction on these materials.

Maywood

Village of Maywood Waste & Recycling & Yard Waste Collection

LRS became the Village of Maywood’s new residential waste hauler, starting on April 1, 2022. We have a great appreciation for the high standards Maywood residents have when it comes to service, quality and value. We look forward to exceeding those expectations. LRS is a Midwest leader with a local operation established right here in Maywood! Under the Village’s contract with LRS, residents will receive a waste cart and a recycling cart.

Clarendon Hills Residential Waste & Recycling

Waste Collection Guidelines

All Maywood residents will be provided with one 95-gallon waste cart and one 65-gallon recycling cart. These carts will be serviced on a weekly basis. All carts should be placed out for collection no later than 6AM on your service day. LRS recommends that carts are placed out for service the night before. Although LRS strives to keep a consistent pick-up time, weather and staffing can alter pickup times. All waste should be bagged and placed inside of the provided LRS cart with the lid closed to ensure safe collection and to help maintain a clean neighborhood appearance Should you need additional cart capacity on a permanent basis, LRS will provide one at a cost of $3 per month, per cart. Please contact us directly at Service@LRSrecycles.com or 844-633-3577 if you’d like to request an additional cart.

Excess Garbage

For trash that does not fit in the cart, LRS will collect unlimited bagged household waste. Guidelines: 50 pounds or less, containers must be 35-gallons or less.

Bulk Item

If a single item is too large to fit in a cart then it is considered a bulk item. LRS will accept two bulk items per week for no additional charge. The bulk item will be collected on your regular scheduled trash day. If the item is heavier than 50lbs please contact LRS to schedule the collection with our customer experience team so they can provide adequate equipment to handle the item safely.

Mattress Disposal

While not required, it is suggested a mattress to be wrapped in some type of plastic for the safety of our drivers and to protect the item from the weather. Plastic packing wrap, a dollar store tablecloth, a mattress disposal bag or even trash bags that have been cut up and taped around the item would all be acceptable options for pickup on an upcoming service day.

White Goods

LRS will provide collection of major appliances, including but not limited to ovens and refrigerators. LRS will accept white goods for collection at no additional charge, but the item must be scheduled with LRS in advance. Residents may either email us at Service@LRSrecycles.com, or call 844-633-3577 to schedule collections.

What if I need my cart replaced?

Carts that are broken due to damage incurred during the collection are reported by the driver for replacement at no charge. Residents are encouraged to contact LRS if they notice damage to the cart during the collection process to request a replacement cart.

If damages occur to the cart due to other reasons, please contact LRS to request a replacement cart. A $25.00 exchange fee will be applied and billed to the resident if requesting a new cart due to damage not incurred during the collection process or odors

Is this considered garbage?

Latex paint

Latex paint is considered regular garbage but it must be completely dried, with the lid off so the driver is able to see inside the can.
